Personal Care Remedies for Headache Relief

When a headache strikes, suddenly the world slows down and plans are delayed. We want to feel better fast. I suffer from periodic migraines, but also the occasional headache from daily stress.

When a headache strikes, suddenly the world slows down and plans are delayed. We want to feel better fast. I suffer from periodic migraines, but also the occasional headache from daily stress. Here are some personal remedies that help me feel better, and get me back on my feet without losing the whole day to dull pain. Try these tips out when you have a headache, or are otherwise feeling lousy.

The most direct way to address the issue at head, or at hand, is to act fast by responding. Hydrating properly can help ease the stress of many common ailments. If I feel the early signs of a headache or scotoma vision, I take an aspirin along with a glass of chilled water. I then remove any restricted or tight clothing in order to allow blood to flow properly. It is helpful to lie down and keep your body level and relaxed. I keep a micro beaded pillow nearby to carefully cradle the neck and head, so as to reduce tension.

Dim the lights or thrown the shades closed to reduce light interference. Keeping the eyes closed reduces the amount of activity that your brain has to produce. Sit or lie still and think positively. Having a positive mental attitude is key to defeating any unpleasantries in life. For someone like myself, I prefer not to take pills whenever possible. Often times a simple mental reiteration of health and positive thinking can reverse the warning signs of ill feelings. Thinking fine will help feeling fine.

Reduce any excessive noise, maybe even turn on a soothing sound CD or soft ambient music. There is a Danny Hauger music album, “Return”, that carries many ambient tracks that help me relax. Keeping a soft fill of sound in the background can help the body adjust to a calmer environment.

Sometimes a cool rag on the forehead can help comfort you. Make sure you are comfortable with the temperature around you. A soft breeze from a fan may help distract you from the pressure of a headache. Try not to think about tasks you have to complete during that day, just reduce thinking to a steady and slowly passing flow to reduce the amount of activity and thought processing.

If you follow these steps, you can reduce some of the environmental and atmospheric pressures that can amplify a headache. I make no definite claims, but these are tactics that help me ride out unpleasant days and headaches when they arise.
